CALLE SHELBURNE

(PARTE II)

(Note que esta es la continuación de la historia que inicié en mi entrada de blog anterior. Si no lo a hecho ya, por favor lea "Calle Shelburne (Parte I)".)

«El Señor dice: "Yo te instruiré, yo te mostraré el camino que debes seguir; yo te daré consejos y velaré por ti.»

...nos devolvimos a donde estaba el hombre, sólo para encontrar que el hombre ya no estaba allí. Rápidamente iniciamos rumbo en la calle para tratar de hallar al hombre con en que habíamos hablado hacía tan sólo minutos. Luego de lo se sintió como una eternidad, finalmente lo encontramos caminando en la Calle Shelburne. Nuevamente lo detuvimos. Obviamente se sorprendió al vernos de nuevo. Y aunque nos sonrió, pude notar tristeza en su mirada. 

"¿Están ustedes bien?" nos preguntó, a lo que Carlos le respondió, "Si, lo estamos. Sólo que tuvimos que regresar a ti, porque Dios nos dijo que te diéramos esto," mientras le entregaba el dinero que pensamos que habíamos sacado extra del banco para nuestro viaje. Los ojos de el hombre se hincharon con lágrimas y casi no lo podía creer. ¡Por un momento, el sonido de su silencio era más fuerte que el ruido de las cataratas del Niágara! Realizando que aún estábamos frente a él mirándolo nos dijo, " Le pedí a Dios que, si estaba ahí y me escuchaba, me diera señal de que le importaba... ¡y él me respondió!" En ese momento ¡nos pusimos tan atónitos por sus palabras como él del motivo de nuestro regreso!

La conversación prosiguió a lo que descubrimos que su nombre era Toby, y había sufrido un grave accidente hacía un tiempo, el cual lo dejó mal herido. El lento tiempo de recuperación provocó que perdiera su empleo, y su matrimonio estaba atravesando fuego. No había podido ver a su hijita por varios meses, ya que se había trasladado lejos de su casa para emprender estudios en una nueva carrera. Allí surgieron varias emergencias que lo dejaron sin el dinero para la matrícula, sus gastos de vivienda, ni para regresar a casa. 

Toby estaba perdido, en todo el sentido de la palabra. Para completar, esa semana era el cumpleaños de su niñita y por primera vez en su vida, no podía estar con ella en esa fecha tan importante. Esto le rompía el corazón. Recibir ese dinero significó más que el mundo para Toby, ya que no sólo le daba para comprar su pasaje a casa, sino que podría comer ese día y también comprarle un regalito a su niña amada. Antes de seguir nuestro camino, con la manos tomadas lo dirigimos a recibir a Cristo como su salvador, y nació la esperanza en su corazón de nuevo. ¡Cuán asombroso es nuestro Dios!

Toby le pidió a Dios que supliera su necesidad en la Calle Shelburne. Nosotros nos "extraviamos" en la Calle Shelburne, sólo para darnos cuenta de que era Dios quien re-dirigía nuestros pasos para caminar en su voluntad y proveer para uno de sus hijos. Debemos aprender a permitirle a Dios que nos mueva en la dirección en la cual sopla su aliento. Siempre será más fácil dejarse llevar por él que fútilmente ir en su contra. Nuestros planes podrán ser buenos en nuestro entendimiento, ¡pero la voluntad de Dios es lo máximo en grandiosidad! Nunca sabemos a quién afectaremos con nuestra obediencia o carencia de ella.

Muchos de ustedes está en situaciones similares hoy, ya sea del lado de necesidad o el lado de re-dirección. Debes saber que Dios está en ambas y se interesa por ti. Si pides, recibirás. Si obedeces, tendrás recompensa. En conclusión, si se lo permites, ciertamente Dios se encontrará contigo en cualquiera sea tu presente Calle Shelburne.

Oración del Día:

"Amado Jesús. Te adoro porque eres el hacedor y sostenedor de mi tiempo. Eres el dador y proveedor de mi necesidad. Te pido que escudriñes mi corazón y me ayudes a hallar esas áreas que debo rendir a ti. Te entrego mis planes; hazlos tuyos. Te entrego mis preocupaciones y mis cargas, ya que tú eres  mucho más fuerte que yo para cargarlas. Recibo tu paz y sé que me encontrarás en mi cruza-calles. Espíritu Santo, hoy permito que me guíes. En el nombre de Jesús oro y creo, Amén."

Day 4
SHELBURNE ROAD

(PART II)

…so we rushed back only to find that the man was no longer there. We quickly headed down the road to try to find the man we had just spoken to minutes ago. After what felt like forever, we finally found him walking down Shelburne Road. We again stopped him. At the repeated sight of he was obviously surprised. And though he smiled, I could notice sadness in his eyes.

“You guys ok?” he said.  Carlos replied, “Yes, we are. We just had to come back, because God told us to give you this,” as he handed over $250 that we seemed to have cashed extra for our road trip. The man’s eyes swelled up with tears of disbelief. For a moment, his silence was louder than Niagara Falls! Realizing we were still there, he went on to say “I asked God that, if He was out there and listening, to let me know that He cared… and He answered!” At that moment we became as astonished at his words, as he was at our eventful return!

The conversation carried on further. Soon we’d discovered that his name was Toby, and he’d suffered an accident that hurt him badly some time ago. Due to the lengthy recovery process, he lost his job, and his marriage was on the rocks. He hadn’t seen his little girl for several months, because he re-located away from home to study a new career. Also he had some emergencies that rid him of tuition and living expense money, thus leaving him with no money to continue studying, and none to get back home. 

He was stranded. To top it off, his little girl’s birthday was that week and his heart was breaking to know that for the first time, he couldn’t be there for her. Receiving that money meant the world to him, because it was exactly what he needed to, eat that day, get back home, and even buy a gift for his daughter. Before we left, he held our hand as we lead him to the Lord, and hope was reborn in his heart. How awesome is our God!

Toby asked God to meet his need on Shelburne Road. We “got lost” on Shelburne Road, only to find out that it was God re-directing our path to meet his will to provide for one of his sons. We must learn to allow God to sway us in the direction in which his breath blows. It is always easier that trying to unsuccessfully push against it. Our plans may be good in our understanding, but His will surmounts to maximum greatness. We never know who will be affected by our obedience or lack thereof.

Many of you are on the similar situations today, weather on the needing side or on the re-direction side. Know that God is in both, and he does care. If you ask, you shall receive. If you obey, you shall be rewarded. Bottom line is, if you allow Him, God will surely meet you on your present Shelburne Road.

Today’s Prayer:

“Dear Jesus. I worship you, for you are the maker and holder of my time. You are the giver and provider for my need. I ask you to search my heart and help me find the areas that I have not surrendered to you. I give you my plans; make them yours. I cast my worries on you, for you are so much stronger than I to carry them. I receive your peace and I know you'll meet me at my crossroads. I will let you guide me, Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray and believe, Amen.”

Hace un tiempo atrás iba rumbo a visitar a mi abuela en la parte más norte del estado de Nueva York, casi en Canadá. Mi esposo y yo usualmente hacemos este viaje en automóvil, para asegurarnos de disfrutar los hermosos paisajes del campo noreste de Estados Unidos. Siempre procuro aprovechar estos viajes al máximo, ya que últimamente paso gran parte de mi tiempo de viaje en aviones.

Luego de hacer una de nuestras paradas hicimos lo usual, encender el GPS y continuar la ruta. Luego de varias horas en la carretera notamos que no andábamos en la ruta que normalmente tomamos para llegar a la casa de mi abuela. De hecho, el GPS nos llevó por una ruta un poco rara. Pocos momentos después nos dimos cuenta que nuestro dispositivo navegador casi-nuevo había decidido dejar de funcionar por completo y nos había plantado en medio del estado de Vermont, el cual nunca habíamos visitado ni teníamos idea como salir. Demás está decir que nos vimos tentados a dejar el pánico fluir libremente en nuestras mentes. Y no es para menos, ¡Estábamos perdidos y sin guía que nos sacara de quién-sabe-dónde!

No hay manera de realmente describir lo que se siente al estar perdido. Fue desesperante y frustrante que aquello que esperábamos que nos guiara a nuestro destino no lo hacía… o al menos eso pensábamos. En esta situación hicimos lo que debíamos hacer para poder salir y volver a la ruta destinada; decidimos pedir direcciones. Por tanto, nos desviamos a buscar una estación de gasolina para buscar un mapa.

Ya casi llegábamos cuando vimos un hombre parado en una esquina al otro lado de la calle. Por alguna razón sentimos que debíamos pedirle direcciones a él en vez de proseguir a la estación como planificado. Así que antes de llegar dimos la vuelta en y nos allegamos a donde se encontraba este hombre desconocido. Le pedimos direcciones y muy gentilmente nos explicó cómo salir del área. Le dimos las gracias y nos fuimos. Al cabo de cerca de dos minutos mi esposo me dijo que sentía a Dios diciéndole que regresara y le diera $250. Inmediatamente sentí lo mismo y nos devolvimos a donde estaba el hombre, sólo para encontrar que el hombre ya no estaba allí…

“Amado Señor. Gracias por estar a mi lado hoy. Reconozco tu presencia. Te adoro, Espíritu Santo, por quién eres, mi acompañante y guía fiel. Te pido que me guíes hoy y que pueda permanecer vigilante y alerta a tu voz en mi corazón mientras me dices qué camino debo seguir. Te escucharé y te buscaré hasta encontrarte. En el nombre de Jesús, Amén.”

Some time ago, I was heading to visit my grandma upstate New York, in a beautiful area very close to Canada. My husband I usually make road trips whenever we visit her, to make sure we can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the stunning north-eastern country of the US. I always try to make the most out of these road trips, since most of my travel days are spent on airplanes, lately.

After we made one of our pit stops, we did the usual, set the GPS and go. After many hours on the road we noticed that we were not quite on the usual route we normally take to get to grandma’s house. In fact the GPS took us through a somewhat odd route. Soon after we had realized that our relatively new navigator device had decided to stop working all together in the middle of Vermont, a state we’d never been to before. Needless to say, we were tempted to panic. Being out in the middle of who-knows-where in Vermont and with no guide to take us where we needed to go.

There is no way to really describe the feeling of being lost. The air rang with fear, worry and frustration since our only guide at the moment was not doing what we needed it to… or so we thought. In the situation, we did what we needed to do in order to get through to our destination; we decided to ask for directions. So we headed of the main road to find a nearby gas station to get a map.

When we’d almost made it to the corner station we saw a man standing on the other side of the road. For some reason, we felt that we should ask him for directions instead. So, before arriving to the station we turned and came to him. We asked him for directions and kindly gave them to us and we were on our way. About two minutes later, my husband told me that the Lord was telling him to go back to the man and give him $250. I immediately felt the same thing, so we rushed back only to find that the man was no longer there…

“Dear Lord. Thank you for being by my side today. I acknowledge your presence and I praise you, Holy Spirit, for who you are, my faithful companion and guide. I pray that you guide me today to remain vigilant to your voice in my heart, telling me which way I am to go. I will listen and seek you until I find you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

ENCUÉNTRAME

Ayer en la mañana cuando hablaba con el Espíritu Santo, podía sentirlo susurrarme, "Encuéntrame." Sonreí y le respondí "Si, Señor. Te estoy buscando." Otra vez me dijo, "Encuéntrame." De inmediato entendí. Buscar y encontrar, aunque sean términos comúnmente relacionados, son distintos. Lo primero, significa intentar hallar u obtener, pedir, o procurar. Lo segundo, por otra parte, significa hallar, descubrir, tener un encuentro con, cruzarse, aprender, o llegar a su destino. Algunos de nosotros pensamos que la búsqueda es la única clave para la respuesta de Dios. Sin embargo, podríamos pasarnos la vida entera buscando sin encontrar. En gran manera esto se debe a que buscamos de la manera equivocada, o a la persona o cosa equivocada.

El pasado Día de Acción de Gracias (día nacional de dar gracias en Estados Unidos) tuvimos una reunión familiar en donde nos juntamos en la casa de mis abuelos en la ciudad de Orlando, Florida. Toda mi familia vino. Pasamos el mejor día de acción de gracias de mi vida. Un día mi sobrino, Michael estaba teniendo un pequeño berrinche, ya que era la hora de dormir, pero él prefería quedarse viendo sus dibujos animados favoritos. Tenía la determinación típica de un niño de 4 años de seguir impulsando sus deseos sobre todo lo demás. 

Pronto después de ese momento, mi esposo y yo debíamos salir a encontrarnos con unos amigos. Sabía que cuando regresara no iba a encontrar a mi sobrinito despierto. Por tanto, me dispuse a querer darle su besito abrazo de buenas noches. En medio de su descontento, él no tenía el más mínimo deseo de brindar afecto alguno. Así que, Michael hizo lo que la mayoría de los niños de su edad harían bajo las mismas circunstancias. Me miró, se dio la vuelta y me ignoró. Luego se oyó la voz de su mamá decir, "¿Acaso no querías que Titi te compara el juguete que le pediste?" Demás está decir que al escuchar esas palabras sus ojitos se se abrieron muy grandes, vino corriendo y se colgó de mi cuello ¡como si no hubiera mañana! 

Por supuesto que iba a comprarle juguete el juguete a mi sobrino. Pero lo que yo realmente deseaba en ese momento era un afecto genuino, que no fuera provocado por un incentivo. Yo quería sentir que su corazoncito se agitara de felicidad por mí, no por lo que le podía dar.

Al rato realicé que muy a menudo hacemos eso con Dios. Tendemos olvidar--o incluso ingnorar--a Dios cuando nos encontramos sumidos en nuestras propias circunstancias. Mas cuando deseamos algo de él, oramos más, adoramos más fuerte, alzamos nuestra voz más, y buscamos. Pedirle algo a Dios sólo para menguar en nuestra búsqueda cuando lo recibimos es meramente buscarle. Esto es tan sólo el primer paso hacia la hermosa travesía de alcanzar a Dios. Por otra parte, encontrarle tiene todo que ver con amar, seguirle, y obedecerle, independientemente de que recibamos o no lo que le pedimos. Por esto, estoy segura de que esa es la razón por la cual me dijo "encuéntrame."

Durante este tiempo, es mi oración que aprendamos a nunca escoger ponerle límites a nuestro amor a Dios dependiendo de lo que podamos recibir de él. Deseemos por siempre buscar Su rostro, Su corazón, Su voluntad... y verdaderamente encontrarlo.

Oración del Día: 

"Amado Señor, te alabo por lo que haces, mas te adoro por quién eres. Te pido por favor que me perdones por las veces que no te he reconocido. También, por las veces que he buscado tus regalos y obras. Yo deseo conocerte. Hoy, escojo amarte, independientemente de si recibo algo de ti o no. Te amo. Bautízame en tu amor sobrenatural. Yo quiero ver tu corazón y moverme al ritmo de sus latidos en tu perfecta voluntad. Ayúdame a mantenerme puro por amor a ti y a los demás. Te doy gracias, te adoro por tu grandiosidad, o padre amoroso. En el nombre de Jesús, Amén."

Day 2
FIND ME

«How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.»

«In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.»

-Jeremiah 29:12-14 (NLT)

Yesterday morning when I spoke to the Holy Spirit, I could feel him whispering, "Find me." I smiled and replied, "Yes, Lord. I'm seeking you." He again said, "Find me." I immediately understood. Seeking and finding, often related terms, are different. The first is to look for, try to obtain, or attempt to. The latter, however, means to come across, encounter, learn, discover, or arrive at. Some of us think that seeking is the key to God's answer. Yet, we could spend our entire lives seeking without ever finding. Sometimes, because we seek the wrong way, or the wrong thing. 

Last Thanksgiving we had a family reunion at my grandparents' house in Orlando, Florida. All of my family came. We had the best Thanksgiving of my life. One day my nephew, Michael was having a little temper bout, because it was bed time and he preferred to watch his favorite cartoons instead. He had the typical 4-year-old determination to carry on with his way. 

Around the time this was happening, my husband and I needed to head out of the house to meet with some friends. Since I knew wouldn't see him awake when I got back, I tried to get his attention to say good night. In his discontent, he did not want to be affectionate. So, he did what most children his age under those circumstances do. He looked at me, turned away, and ignored me. Then he heard the voice of his mother say, "Didn't you want Auntie to get your that toy you asked for?" Needless to say, his eyes lit up, realizing that acquiring his toy might be in jeopardy, and he ran back and hung from my neck like there was no tomorrow! 

Of course I was still going to get my nephew his toy. But what I really wanted was for affection that wasn't fueled by incentive. I wanted to feel his little heart beating happily for me, not what I could give.

Later, I realized that often times we do that to God. We tend to forget--or even ignore--him when we are in our own 'zone' of circumstances. But when we want something from him, we pray more, praise louder, cry harder, and seek. Asking God for something only to later dwindle in our pursuit of him as soon as we receive it is just merely seeking him. This is only a first step in the journey of reaching God. Finding Him however, has everything to do with loving God, pursuing and obeying Him, regardless of receiving what we're asking for. I'm sure that is why he said to me, "Find me." 

I pray that we learn to never choose to limit our 'love' to God depending on what we can get from him. Let us want to forever seek His face, His heart, His will... and truly find Him.

Today's prayer: 

"Dear Lord, I praise you for what you do, but I worship you for who you are. Please forgive me for the times I have not acknowledged you. Also, for the times I have sought you for your gifts and works. I want to know you. Today I choose to love you, regardless of receiving anything from you or not. I love you. Baptize me in your supernatural love. I want to see your heart and move to its rhythm in your perfect will. Help me stay pure for the love of you and others. I thank you, and I worship your greatness, oh loving father. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Día 1
HAMBRE

«Jesús le respondió: 

—Escrito está: “No sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.”»

-Mateo 4:4 (NVI)

«—Yo soy el pan de vida —declaró Jesús—. El que a mí viene nunca pasará hambre el que en mí cree nunca más volverá a tener sed.»

-Juan 6:35 (NVI)

Hambre. ¿Qué es? Sabemos cómo se siente. Sabemos que en muchas ocasiones trasciende más allá de lo físico. Tiene la tendencia de hacernos sentir emociones y deseos que permanecen dormidos mientras no esté presente. Pero, realmente te has puesto a pensar, ¿qué es el hambre?

El diccionario da tres definiciones: La primera, "sensación que indica la necesidad de alimentos", y la segunda "escasez de alimentos básicos" (estoy segura que ya en este primer día de ayuno juntos comenzamos a sentir las primeras dos). Pero la más que me llama la atención es la tercera, "deseo ardiente de algo."

Realmente sentí que algo en mi interior saltó al leer esta definición, porque es justamente lo que siento. Un deseo ardiente por conocer más a Dios. Esta es la razón por la que todos hemos decidido rendir nuestro deseo por saciar el hambre natural con tal de pasar más tiempo saciando nuestra hambre espiritual. ¡Queremos más de Dios!

En esa misma línea de pensamiento y meditación mantengamos nuestra mente puesta en el único que puede saciar ese 'deseo ardiente' que late en nuestro espíritu, Jesucristo. Seamos aquellos verdaderos hijos de Dios de los que habla Romanos 8:19, "Pues toda la creación espera con anhelo el día futuro en que Dios revelará quiénes son verdaderamente sus hijos." 

Mientras vivimos el día de hoy, tal vez con hambre física, sepamos que nuestro espíritu se está fortaleciendo para encontrar nuevas áreas del corazón de Dios que nos acercarán más a Él. Mis queridos amigos, tomen valor y muestren una sonrisa en sus labios, porque nuestro gran Dios escucha nuestro clamor por la unidad y ya nos ha respondido. Sólo falta que seamos fieles en nuestra búsqueda para encontrar esa respuesta que ya ha sido enviada desde lugares celestes. 


Oración del día:
"Señor, me entrego hoy a ti en ayuno, sacrificio vivo delante de Ti. En este momento pongo mi enfoque y mi deseo ardiente solamente en Ti, quien eres el único que me puedes satisfacer realmente.  Tomaré Tu Palabra y la guardaré en mi corazón para no pecar contra Ti. Dame las fuerzas para continuar con este reto de 21 días. Heme aquí. Tuyo soy. Amen."

21 Days of Fasting and Prayer 2014 for UNITY

WEEK 1 FOCUS:

To deepen in the Word of God.

To be baptized in God's supernatural ability to love Him and one another.

Hunger for walking in purity for the sake of loving God and others.

Day 1: 
HUNGER

«Jesus answered, “It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'»

«Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.»

Hunger. What is it? We certainly know how it feels. We know that on many occasions it transcends the physical aspects of it with that nit picky ability to make us feel emotional when we experience it. But really, have you every taken time to think, really what is hunger? What defines it?

Looking through the dictionary I found three definitions for 'hunger': the first, "a sensation that indicates the need for food," and the second, "scarcity of basic foods." But the one that captured my attention the most was the third, "a burning desire for something or someone."

I really felt something jump inside me when I was reading this definition. It is just the way I feel about God. I yearn for Him with burning desire. I long to know Him more than to know myself or anyone else. This is the reason why we have all joined together to seek Him in prayerful fast. We want to lay down our need to alleviate our physical hunger just to spend more time satisfying our spiritual hunger. We want more of God! 

On this very line of thought and meditation I say, let us keep our minds fixed on Jesus, the only one who can fulfill that 'burning desire' that throbs in our spirit man. Let us be the real children of God that Romans 8:19 speaks of, "For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are." 

As we live our day today, maybe with physical hunger, we must know that our spirit is being strengthened to find God in new ways. To see new areas of His heart. To be closer to Him. My dear friends, take heart and let a big smile bloom on your faces, because our great God has already heard our prayers, even those we haven't spoken yet! Our cry for unity has been responded. We just have to search for the right position to receive it. In that position of humility and sacrifice we stand, ready to receive the response that has already been sent from heaven. 

Today's prayer: 
"Lord, I give my self completely to you today in fasting, a living sacrifice before you. In this very moment I place my full focus on you alone, the only one who can truly satisfy me. I will treasure your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Please give me the strength to carry on with the challenge ahead during these 21 days. Here I am, all yours. Amen."
